How to Be Safe from Virus Infection
You love to surf the internet, who doesn’t anyway?  But for every second that you surf the internet, your computer is at risk for virus infection.  Computer VirusThis couldn’t be truer when your computer doesn’t have the essential protection to be safe from the nasty infection.

Pretty sure you must already have an anti-virus program installed in your computer.  Most internet surfers would know how important an anti-virus is to guard your computer from viruses.  The question is do you check if your anti-virus is updated?

It’s time to admit.  You leave it all to your anti-virus program to do the job of watching over your computer to prevent virus attacks.  You are confident that your anti-virus is a do-it-all software program that scans your computer automatically, updates virus database on its own, and alerts you of virus attacks.

For whatever reason, it is still sensible to check occasionally if your anti-virus program is functioning, as it should. This means, you have to ensure that the real time protection is turned on and the program runs the latest version of virus database.  It is also not a waste of time to perform a manual scanning of your computer notwithstanding the ability of your program to run an automatic scan.

Now, there are other essential protections that your computer must have to keep it safe from virus attacks especially when you love to go online most of the times.  These protections do not have to cause you your hard-earned money as they are already built into your computer.
Start with your operating system.  You think that the update notice is just one of those that you can readily ignore?  You may not be aware of its importance but updating your operating system is a must to prevent virus infections.  You see, just like technology, viruses update themselves regularly.  They look for loopholes in your operating system and when they do, they strike.

Your operating system releases updates to make sure that your computer is protected and secured from threats including virus attacks.  The updates are one way to guarantee that your operating system is free from loopholes that viruses may use to enter your system.  Make sure that you enable the automatic update of your operating system or when your system notifies you to update, do so.
Another essential protection in your operating system is the firewall.  The firewall acts as filter that determines what goes in and out of your computer.  You just have to make sure that the firewall is enabled in your computer and that there is no exception unless very necessary.  For added protection, you can install a third party firewall at your discretion.

It also helps that you clean your computer of junks from time to time.  For this purpose, you will find the disk clean-up and disk defragmenter system tools useful.  The disk clean-up clears away all unnecessary files from your computer including temporary internet files while the disk defragmenter rearranges the files in your computer to optimize its performance.

You may have the essential protection tools installed in your computer but if you don’t do your part, your computer may still be at risk for virus infections.  The bottom line is to do your part as a responsible online surfer and computer user.  Use the tools to protect your computer.
